Top 3 Singapore Grocery Store Chains

Considering how small the island is, you might find it surprising there are a few Singapore grocery store chains. I personally shopped at all of these supermarkets during my travel through Singapore in 2023.

There are also smaller grocers in Singapore and a few online grocery shopping sites, but those won’t be covered here.

The following is a list of the biggest grocery store chains in Singapore in no particular order.

1. Cold Storage

Cold Storage is a Singapore supermarket chain that was founded in 1903. Spread across 50 different locations in Singapore, Cold Storage has three distinct brands.

  • Cold Storage
  • CS Fresh
  • Jasons

In 1992, the DFI Retail Group which also owns Giant purchased Cold Storage.

2. Giant

With 62 stores in Singapore, Giant is one of the top supermarkets on the island. The Giant brand has multiple store location types:

  • Giant Hypermarket: 5 Giant Hypermarket locations in Singapore with both a supermarket and large department store under one roof
  • Giant Supermarket: 25 Giant Supermarket locations in Singapore with fresh groceries and other general merchandise
  • Giant Express: 25 Giant Express locations with a smaller selection of daily necessities
  • Giant Online: an online grocery shopping and delivery website

Giant was founded in 1944 in Malaysia nonetheless, but didn’t enter Singapore until 2000. There are also Giant locations in Indonesia.

3. FairPrice

FairPrice is the largest supermarket chain in Singapore with over 100 locations. According to the FairPrice location finder on their website, FairPrice has the following store types in Singapore.

  • FairPrice
  • FairPrice Finest
  • FairPrice Shop
  • FairPrice Xtra
  • Warehouse Club

Founded in 1973, FairPrice operates under the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) of Singapore.
